A dream destination not only for Italy fans, Bologna

What makes Bologna so special? This city simply casts a spell over you. On the one hand, it is proud and powerful and sometimes a bit snobby. On the other hand, it is young, lively and a great place to live. For every 400,000 inhabitants, there are 100,000 students studying at Europe’s oldest alma mater. The population mix is correspondingly diverse, young energy meets tradition, life here is exciting!

The atmosphere in the city is always positive, friendly and open. Thanks to the many students, communication in English is not a problem, which is not a given in Italy! Another plus is the accessibility: Guliemo Marconi Airport is around €20 away from the city centre and is served by direct flights from many German airports. The flight time is only about 1.30 hours, great…. or?

Bologna is culturally very diverse. The historic city centre has a medieval feel. There is a lot to see: Churches, palaces and especially the hidden courtyards with their grandeur. Charming squares invite you to linger. For me, Piazza Maggiore and the two leaning twin towers from the 12th century are at the top of the list of sights, but perhaps that’s different for you.

The city’s history alone makes the trip worthwhile, but Bologna has so much more to offer!

Welcome to the gourmet capital of Italy.

The perfect place for a culinary weekend. You don’t need much preparation, you just walk through the city and let yourself drift, under the arcades, called “Portici”, it is wonderful to walk, life pulsates here all year round.

You can sit in front of small bars and watch life on the streets, which is wonderfully inspiring. Aperitivo time starts at 6 pm, a custom that was invented in Bologna… Finger food is served with every drink to round off the day.

Socialising is very important in Italy and you can be sure that if you approach people with a smile on your face, you will belong, no matter where you come from.

The city’s gastronomy is exceptional, there is no such thing as bad food here. Whether the restaurant is award-winning or your mum cooks, in Bologna food and sensuality go hand in hand.

It is therefore no coincidence that the world’s first Agri-Food Park was opened in this very city. Located on the outskirts of the city, a kind of “Disneyland” for Italian cuisine has been created on 80,000 square metres.
